Something In The Making

Franko Fraize, a Norfolk based rapper commissioned the design work for his and fellow rapper Lyrical T’s

Something In The Making E.P. that was recorded and released independently in 2009.

The resulting artwork was a combination of design process and material gathered from a fly on the wall photo shoot as the artists recorded the E.P.

To be able to clearly place text over the repetition of photography I used the found object of masking tape, with hand scrawled typography over the top. This found imagery also finds itself on the back of the booklet and on the very back cover. To stop the use of this found imagery from getting too dull, and with a priority on legibility on the inside pages, I used rigid typography and grid structure. This found and scanned imagery combined with regulated typography and grid structures, creates the perfect balance of visual stimulation and legible information whilst also suggesting a D.I.Y nature that reflects both artists personas.

I have entered this piece of work into Grafik Magazine's design competition Grafik Design Awards. Stay tuned to see how it does. http://www.awards.grafikmag.com/
